With the aim of raising the awareness of environmentally friendly energy sources in an innovative way and motivating young people to apply their ideas and skills effectively in the field of renewable energy, vortex energy is acting as sponsor of the “4th Polish National Wind Energy Competition”. This way of motivating young people to use their ideas and skills in the field of renewable energy also furthers their development in the domain of innovation. Together with PFE (Piaseczyńska Fundacja Ekologiczna) vortex energy is encouraging the spread of creative competitions of this kind throughout the country. The action was promoted at 6000 Polish middle and upper secondary schools. Nearly 1000 contestants from the whole country took part in this year’s competition. The contestants constructed their models of wind turbines from various materials according to the technical drawings available on the competition organiser’s website. With their models the contestants demonstrate innovative technical solutions and with them they battle for first place. The prototypes registered for the competition were tested on a professional test rig in three categories:
– maximum output,
– rotations of the drive shaft under load,
– torque at standstill
The sum of the all the points obtained in the individual categories determined the position of the entry in the final evaluation. Different classifications applied for the students from the middle and upper schools.
The competition was broken down into two sections: a regional selection and the final. The participants in the regional selection conducted in Dansk, Cracow, Posen and Warsaw battled for a place in the final tournament. As well as going on to the final, the first three teams from each regional round were awarded non-cash prizes.
130 contestants of the 50 best teams from the whole of Poland took part in the final of the “4th Polish National Wind Turbine Competition” in Piaseczno. The teams battled for the top prize in the main classification, in which the first 5 teams from middle and upper secondary schools received cash prizes totalling 6000 PLN. Those supervising the first two teams also received cash prizes of 1000 PLN each. In addition the organiser awarded almost 50 non-cash prizes to the 3 best teams in each discipline.
The total pool of prizes and awards for the contestants in the “4th Polish National Wind Turbine Competition” amounted to 50 000 PLN.
More creative competitions in the future:
